INDUSTRY TERMINOLOGY

Gelcoat or 'Gel Coat'

is a material used to provide a high-quality finish on the visible surface of a fibre-reinforced composite. Many marine craft and some aircraft are manufactured using composite materials with an outer layer of gelcoat, typically 0.5 mm to 0.8 mm (0.02 in to 0.03 in) thick. Gelcoats are designed to be durable, providing resistance to ultraviolet degradation and hydrolysis.

Crazing or Spider cracks

is an incredibly common issue on modern fiberglass boats, and although it usually starts off as a matter of cosmetics, in severe cases these surface cracks can grow, deepen, and eventually threaten your boat's structural integrity. They usually form in areas where the fiberglass is under unusual stress (such as rail stanchion and anchor pulpit attachment points, transom corners, and around hardware), or in areas where significant impacts have occurred, such as rub-rail collision zones or where a heavy object was dropped. You'll want to fix them quickly because they can grow worse over time

Bottom Coat

Add  also known as Anti-fouling paint - a category of commercially available underwater hull paints (also known as bottom paints) - is a specialized category of coatings applied as the outer (outboard) layer to the hull of a ship or boat, to slow the growth and/or facilitate detachment of subaquatic organisms that attach to the hull and ... a description about this item

Compound /Polish

When you “rub” in a rubbing compound (or polish it in with a machine), it slowly removes all of that nasty gelcoat oxidation from the surface.   ion about this item

Wet Core

It stands for core dysfunction. It means something is going on that has compromised the stiffness and strength of a laminate reinforced with a core material. In  boats typically core hulls only above the waterline. By far, the most common source of destructive moisture in cored laminate is via holes drilled intentionally through the otherwise protective skins. description about this item

Stringers

Are support members bonded into boat hulls, usually oriented parallel to the long axis of a boat hull. They are there for a variety of reasons. ... In fiberglass boats, you will find that most often, stringers are composed of a core material overlaid with a fiberglass skin. description about this item

Fiberglass

is a common type of fiber-reinforced plastic using glass fiber. The fibers may be randomly arranged, flattened into a sheet (called a chopped strand mat), or woven into a fabric. The plastic matrix may be a thermoset polymer matrix—most often based on thermosetting polymers such as epoxy, polyester resin, or vinylester—or a thermoplastic Add a description about this item

Shrink wrapping

is an easy and economical way to protect and store boats,  from dust, debris and harsh weather elements.
